Draft 2 Digital (D2D) took over Smashwords and now their policy is to charge authors if they don’t sell $100 worth of books in a year. I emailed them and pointed out that it would be difficult for authors to pay the fee if they had earned nothing. I have deleted the link to Smashwords and will not upload to D2D. Most authors make little to no money.
I’m going to pass out the rest of my business cards, and try a couple more things, but if I don’t get any sales, I’ll shut down this site. I’ve sold very few copies despite my efforts. I hate marketing. There are a lot of scams directed at authors. They promise the world, but just take your money and do nothing to promote your book. I have spent more on getting book formatted, getting a cover, keeping a Website, and advertising than I have made from book sales. I’ve spent over $1,000 and made maybe $300 in sales.
I developed a thyroid problem, my parents died, my MS progressed, one of my nephews stole my inheritance, and yesterday I lost the stone from a ring my husband gave me on our first anniversary. I’m done. I can’t take any more.
